22, April 2019

Located on the Andean plateau of Peru, the Puno region is dominated by Lake Titicaca, sacred place of the Incas and home to natural and artificial islands. Among the many destinations, there are pre-Hispanic archaeological sites with circular constructions that still go by their original name of “chullpas”. Puno’s churches are characterized by their distinctive colonial architecture.

This evening we have amazing tour of Lake Titicaca, the Uros Islands, are a small group of handmade floating surfaces in the lake. The locals use a natural reed that grows around to make the islands. The history and the way to make their floating islands are considered unique in the world. We come to see this incredible way of life and learn more the history of this great rural community.

After breakfast we take first leg of travel to Copacabana, is only a 4 hours picturesque journey. The bus arrives in time for the 13.30 boat to the Isla del Sol. You can have the break and continue second leg of travel to the La Paz

Crossing Peru - Bolivia border, once you're through the bridge, there's a huge sign in the font and style which is ubiquitous across the country's tourist attractions (trust us, you'll be seeing plenty of it over the last week). It's an excellent opportunity for a photo!

Eavning we arive to Bolivia's capital La Paz, the highest national capital in the world. Altitudes range from 3100 meters to 4050 meters. The city sits in a canyon, where the affluence of the neighborhoods increases towards the bottom (where there is more oxygen). The snow-capped mountains of Illimani, the second highest mountain in Bolivia at 6438 meters, can be seen in the distance. No planned activities on this day.

DAY 8 - 9 LA PAZ

24 -25, April 2019

The main problem you’re likely to face when you arrive in La Paz is the altitude. On arrival at high altitude you should take things very slowly and soon we get to a hotel where you can leave your luggage and rest. It’s also best to avoid smoking and alcohol, and to drink plenty of liquids, particularly maté de coca, an infusion of coca leaves that any local will tell you is the ideal remedy.

Alternatively, all chemists stock soroche pills; they’re high in caffeine, however, so don’t take them at night unless you fancy even less sleep than the altitude already dictates.
